About Mind Over Tools
Mind Over Tools is a partnership of two graphic designers who have created work for some of the world’s most recognizable brands and nonprofit organizations. We design brand and corporate identities, printed graphics, product packaging, publications, websites, product graphics, signage, and book covers.
Our services include graphic design, brand communications strategy, and language simplification. We’ve served clients in a wide range of industries and professions, including: technology, biotechnology, and telecommunications; manufacturing and consumer products; transportation; food and beverages; hospitality; publishing; arts and entertainment; and professional services.
We are designers who work directly with our clients. While our approach emphasizes clarity, our solutions embody overlapping qualities like beauty, simplicity, wit, or other attributes that serve particular communications.
The Partners
Paul Woods
Paul co-founded Mind Over Tools with Mark Schnapper after years at the helm of Woods + Woods, the highly successful design firm he co-founded with his wife Alison. Previously, he had worked as a design director at Landor Associates, and as a partner and the executive creative director at SBG Partners (now called Brand Union).
In a long and influential career, he has designed brand identities, packaging, and other graphics for such household names as Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, 3M, Warner Bros. Pictures, Disney, Levi’s, General Mills, Embassy Suites Hotels, and others.
Mark Schnapper
Before co-founding Mind Over Tools with Paul Woods, Mark ran his own design firm, Mark Schnapper Graphic Design. Among the firm’s notable projects were the design of a logo refresh and brand identity program for Moran Towing, one of America’s oldest and largest tugboat and barge companies; a brand identity for Hoya’s SafeVision subsidiary, a leading manufacturer of safety eyewear; and a website for U.S. Shipping Corp., a leading marine transportation company.
Prior to founding his own firm, Mark completed identity, print, and product packaging projects for Hewlett-Packard, Ziff Davis, Simon & Schuster, Sony/United Artists, MIT, and West Group. A multi-disciplinary designer and writer, he also created a language simplification program for AT&T.
